Have we come a long way, baby?

When I paint, I watch scads of TV.

I’m not kidding when I say you learn more watching ” Say Yes to the Dress” than you would sitting through an entire semester of psych 101.

Sadly, what’s often on display are the typical image issues women deal with as well as the unrealistic expectation that they can somehow manage all manner ofย  physical, emotional and relational problems if they just wrap them in silk and tulle.

Couple this show with a few episodes of “Four Weddings” where the most shallow women on the planet compete for ‘best wedding’ and it gets harder to believe “we’ve come a long way..” ๐Ÿ™„

  1. So very true, Cindy! Any kind of reality t.v. show will show you that. What makes me sad is the kind of people that are usually featured are not our brightest and best. The wedding series show brides that it’s all about them. Something I despise at a wedding. I like where the couple is just happy to get married and want to share their joy and include family in friends in celebrating. Instead of having to be the center of a very expensive show.
I’ve seen house hunting shows where the young couples are very entitled and think they need everything perfect in a house. Starter homes? A thing of the past for a lot of these people.
I am happy to say, though, that my son and his fiancee just bid on a house that is small, cute, and will perfectly suit them for a while. There are things to be fixed on it, but they were very savvy buyers, I think. New roof, new furnace, new appliances were all included in this. Very smart.

    • I remember our starter home! But today it’s more like chutes and ladders..you go straight to the house that will be you know, “perfect for entertaining..” haha..๐Ÿ™„ Funniest thing I ever heard on one of those wedding shows was..”what’s your theme?”- Remember when the theme was… ummm, wedding? ๐Ÿ˜
