I’ve been busy trying to organize my house prior to the arrival of all our (grown) kids for the holiday. As I do, the question that keeps popping up is “where can I put this?”
Decorations, pool towels, paper plates, folding chairs, snacks, games, extra soap and shampoo.. gotta find the appropriate spot for everything..which brings me to yesterday’s attack at the Christmas market in Berlin…
Where do I put that??
In the midst of all the baking, wrapping, partying and preparation.. where do I put the images, sounds and reality of today’s suffering?
There’s so much darkness in the world that it sometimes seems almost obscene to continue with our celebrating.. and yet we do.. because at the end of the day, Christmas is about the birth of Christ who offers us forgiveness and salvation- He is the light we crave!
Jesus didn’t come to fix the world
“In this world you will have trouble, but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world” John 16-33
He came to show us the way forward
“I am the way, the truth and the light.” John 14:6
This is the good news that we need to hear ..now more than ever!
So I will pray for the victims of violence, those who are ill, those who are dealing with loss and sadness and those whose minds are trapped in a maze of dark ideologies..
I will light the Christmas candle in honor of the one who brings hope to the hopeless.
I will sing the carols about the one who paid the price for our transgressions.
I will give gifts to those I love in remembrance of the precious gift Christ gave to me
And I will love, love, love on behalf of the one who loves us more than we can ever imagine.
Yes, I will say Merry Christmas loud and clear
not in spite of the pain
in our world..
I will say Merry Christmas
I will LIVE Merry Christmas
