Letting go

I have often remarked to myself that it’s a good thing I didn’t have six children; I’d be completely worn out from worry. But as I prayed for my four this morning I decided it’s a good thing I don’t have just one.  If I had one child, I’d probably be completely in his or her business with an even greater tendency, and ability, to obsess.  It would be awful.. for him  and for me.

When you have four, all in different states, leading very busy lives with demanding careers..well, at some point, you have to let go. And no, letting go doesn’t mean kicking them out of your mind’s nest..it means handing them over in prayer to God and trusting that He is with them when you can’t (and shouldn’t) be. It has taken me years to loosen the grip in this area and truth be told, I have to keep working on it.

My kids mean the world to me and there isn’t a morning that I don’t lift each one of them up in fervent prayer and ask God to help them with very specific needs in their lives. But just like a parent’s relationship with a baby sitter..after you give her all the information she needs to care for your precious child- the next step is walking out the door. What good is the nanny if you never trust her enough to fully take care of your loved one?

Now I’m not implying that our heavenly Father is a babysitter, I’m just pointing out that we can trust Him with our earthly concerns. We can figuratively lay them out in the morning in prayer and then go ahead and “walk out the door” to live productively- free from  anxiety and fear.

Yes, He really is that awesome.

You need His number?

    1. Hey Lenore! 💜 Let me tell you, some weeks it’s like I’ve got the Lord on “speed dial.” It’s the only way for me to keep it together. Do you have the devotional “Jesus Calling?” I have the book and the app on my phone..I just love it. Gives me such an important boost every day and helps me to keep life in perspective.

    1. You are too funny..and it’s true! The election to me is beyond dismaying. I still CANNOT believe that this was the best both parties could offer. I saw Sanders interviewed the other day..I mean he is one pissed off old man who loathes this country. Imagine him as CEO of your firm and he’s talking smack about it every day. Then there’s Clinton Inc. I mean this isn’t a primary it’s a boardroom brawl and she’s bought off 80% of the “voting partners.” And Donald Trump..where to start? God help us all for sure.
