Believe it or not, the British parliament is actually going to debate whether or not to ban Donald Trump. Β Now I am not a fan of his, nor would ever vote for him, but ban him because of his inflammatory speech…really? Banning Trump from the UK is just about as stupid as Trump’s idea to ban Muslims from the US. And while I’m sure there are those who would applaud this action, read on to see what can develop when we create a society that is quite literally afraid to speak, see or listen to, things that they don’t want seen, said or heard.

Unbeknownst to many in the US, because our press has chosen not to cover it, there was a large gang assault that took place on New Year’s Eve in Cologne, Germany. Seems a group of almost 1,000 men had congregated at the main train station to party and eventually create a gauntlet of sorts for unsuspecting women; up to 100 of whom were sexually assaulted and/or robbed. The story was buried for days with scant coverage and no comment from officials – why? Well, the perpetrators were identified as Arabs and North Africans bringing up the very real possibility that some of them are refugees.

That information was definitely too hot to handle for a city like Cologne where 10,ooo people came together a few months ago to march in support of Germany’s open door policy for migrants.

So with a politically correct, hearts and flowers environment as the backdrop, this late December ‘doo-doo storm’ had to be managed and contained..

until it couldn’t be anymore.

Not surprisingly the response that eventually came from the government included warnings about not jumping to conclusions about the perpetrators prematurely and, believe it or not, a call for Germany to better explain their customs to foreigners who may not know what is considered appropriate celebratory behavior.

Uh huh.

Don’t get me wrong, I feel for the refugees flooding into Europe, the majority of whom are no doubt good people simply looking for a better life…but for heaven’s sake, let’s put away the national selfie-sticks and cease with this compulsive, hyper vigilant, self-criticism and censorship so we can honestly look at πŸ™ˆ listen to πŸ™‰ and discuss πŸ™Šthe very real problems we are facing.

  1. Hear hear!! I only learned of this yesterday! More transparency and open discussion is needed. Horrifying and shocking. I worry for my two daughters as we are in Switzerland – just next door!

    There’s a change coming… I can feel it. Hope it’s a good one! :/

  2. Freedom of speech is , I think, the key to real democracy. So as much as I’d love to see Trump banned from the airways, I would have to protest it if it happened. Strikes me funny, though, to see how horrified the Brits are by him and his potty mouth!

    • I totally agree! Let’s face it democracy can be annoying and loud. I wonder if the Brits will consider “banishing” the German official who today said that the racist online responses to the sexual attacks in Cologne were “as bad as the attacks themselves.” Something tells me that this fellow is getting an earful from his female constituents..but once again here’s someone else who is equating hateful speech with an actual crime- in this case robbery and molestation. I’m sure if his wife or daughter had been one of the unfortunate women out there, he’d think differently.
