Simple Holiday Pleasure #3

So I’m probably going to step in it here, but let’s indulge in a moment of yuletide honesty.  It’s the carols folks..the Christmas carols!!  Is it heresy to confess they can be grating and annoying?  Am I the only one who has had to dash away, dash away, dash down the hall to pull the plug right as the choir gets to “FIVVVVE GOOOOLDEN RINGSSSS” – for the 10th time?

Hippopotamus for Christmas? Dominic the Donkey? Come on now, let’s agree that sometimes these tunes just rub us the wrong way. Ever been late driving to an appointment with Trans-Siberian Orchestra’s Merry, Merry, Merry, Merry, Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas anthem blasting away in the background? It sounds like it could be the sound track from one of those scary, medieval movies where little trolls are chasing bigger trolls through the forest.  Holy cow, it’s enough to trigger a stress-induced heart attack!

Can we just admit that it’s hard listening to the same music over and over and over again for a month, especially with little nuggets like ‘Grandma got run over by a reindeer’ and ‘Feliz Navidad’ bubbling up like reflux from yesterday’s breakfast with Santa?

What to do you ask? Boycott annoying tunes and take charge of the music you expose yourself to! Get on Pandora or Spotify and be selective!  Wrapping gifts to Michael Bublé or baking cookies to the soft sounds of a dulcimer is much more enjoyable than putting yourself at the mercy of whatever the Christmas music channel coughs up next. But speaking of cable, they do offer some relaxing options: one being the crackling fireplace with NO music, and believe it or not, a puppy and kitty channel with instrumental music accompanied by video of adorable fuzzy animals just being themselves.

Don’t laugh till you try it, it’s actually very relaxing and uplifting!
