Yeah… so it was ugly. My mom and I were checking out of Target on Wednesday and I asked the cashier how the big Lilly Pulitzer launch went. She rolled her eyes and told us it was crazy. There was a line at the door waiting for the store to open, and when it did there was a mad rush to the Lilly display. Everything was gone in thirty minutes.

Everything?

Yup.

“When will you be getting more?” I asked. “Oh, we aren’t getting any more” the girl replied flatly, “that is unless someone returns an item..this was a one time pop-up event.” We left pretty confused, but a quick google search once I got home yielded all the details.  I guess Target has done this kind of collaboration with designers in the past.  They buy a limited quantity of product, and when it sells out- that’s it.  The problem with this most recent event was that not only did everything sell out everywhere, the Target website went down as well. Seems they underestimated the demand. (Ya think?) At the end of the day, there were definitely more unhappy girls than happy ones.

To add insult to injury, over 37,000 of those Target/Lilly purchases immediately went up for sale on E-bay..for a lot more than the Target prices. (surprise, surprise) Yes, not everyone is pleased with Target that’s for sure. I guess it’s yet to be determined if the bad press overshadows the blast of money they made.

Meanwhile, over at the real Lilly Pulitzer, their website had its busiest day since Cyber Monday.
