Boiling the perfect egg

Lower eggs into gently simmering water and start the timer: 3 mins for soft (with toast), 6 mins for firm white with yolk just set at edges, 9 mins for creamy yolk (deviled eggs), 11 mins for hard boiled (salads). Dunk hot eggs, one at a time, into ice water when done so they can be peeled easily when cool.
